Wab.Co. Sheriff hires new dispatcher

April 16, 2014
Doug Howser, Wabaunsee County Sheriff, reported that he has hired another dispatcher for his department.

He passed the information along to the county commission at the regular meeting on Monday, April 14.

The department will now try to have two dispatchers at work at the same time. "It just gets really difficult for them," he said. "We've had a couple of minor mistakes as a result of being understaffed or one person trying to do too much, but haven't amounted to any problems at all."

"The couple or three times I've called in, the dispatchers are very courteous," said Ervan Stuewe, county commissioner. "I would think that some of those times they could be a little short, but I haven't experienced that."

Howser also reported that no burn restrictions are currently in place as of Monday, and no fire vehicles have been lost in the burnings.

The commission also received an anonymous person report that the Maple Hill Township is having problems with the roads not being maintained. The road grader is supposedly being repaired, but the roads have not been maintained in many weeks.

In other business, the commission:

Approved chemical purchases from CPS Timberland.

Approved purchase of a push mower and string trimmer for Courthouse lawn work.

Heard that the building current restoration work is completed; waiting on grant approval to begin window work.
