June 02, 2014The Manhattan Optimist Moxie 18U team opened this weekend with a pair of wins against Clay Center.
In the first game, Moxie had 14 hits including 3 doubles. Multiple hit days came from Blair Campbell with 2 singles, Brynn Hammett with a single and double, Alexis Wilson 3 singles, Linsey Kramer with a single and a double, and Mariah Kinderknecht with 2 singles. Blair Campbell earned the 7-3 win, allowing 9 hits through 7 innings of work.
In the second game Moxie had 15 hits, with 5 doubles; Abbie Plummer, Blair Campbell, Shannon Caffrey and 2 doubles from Linsey Kramer. Brynn Hammett went 3-4 in game two and also pitched for the win, with 4 strikeouts and allowing 6 hits. Shannon Caffrey closed the game from the mound striking out 2.
"29 hits in two games for an opening weekend was good to see. As great as that was, we left 24 runners on base 13 and 11 respectively – we have to plate those runs and not leave so many runs on the bases. It was nice for these girls to get a couple games in before tournament season hits.
