Moxie 18U competed well in Father's Day NIT tourney

Manhattan Optimist Moxie 18U competed well in this past weekend's Fathers Day NIT tournament in Topeka. Moxie was 1-1 in pool play and an undefeated 2-0 in the winner's bracket headed into Sunday's games, which were cancelled due to the wet field conditions.

Moxie started pool play with a 7-3 win over the Lawrence Phoenix Fylers. Moxie scored 5 in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for the game. Moxie had 10 hits and committed no errors in the win. Alexis Wilson and Linsey Kramer each went 2-3. Kramer and Kayla Boltz each notched 2 RBI's. Moxie was out-slugged in the 2nd game of pool play 12-6 and lost 8-1 in the game. Alexis Campuzano went 2-2 while Blair Campbell had 2 hits. Moxie got 2nd in their pool and began double elimination bracket play Saturday facing NCK Adrenaline in their first game. Leading 5-2 after 4 ˝ innings, Moxie allowed 3 runs to score in the game to force ITB. In the extra (6th) inning, Moxie had 7 hits to notch 8 runs, winning the game 13-6. Moxie had 16 hits for the game, and the short game proved to be critical in the top of the 6th inning with successful bunts/squeeze plays from 4 Moxie batters. Wilson and Boltz each had a 3 hit game; while Miranda Hemmert and Abbie Plummer added 2 each. In what would unfortunately be the final game of the weekend tournament, Moxie faced the 18U Clay Center B's, winning the game by a score of 5-2. Moxie had 5 timely hits to CC's 4 hits. Moxie batters Shannon Caffrey and Linsey Kramer each had solo home runs in the game for two of the scores. Campbell doubled in the game; Mariah Kinderknecht and Wilson each singled. Blair Campbell, Brynn Hammett, and Shannon Caffrey shared the pitching duties for the weekend, each earning a win over the weekend. Manhattan Optimist Moxie is now 6-2-1 on the summer season with 2 consecutive weekends shortened/changed due to the rain. Moxie will compete this coming weekend at the Summer Smash in Kansas City.
