Issues regarding livestock at the county fair

July 02, 2014
The Pottawatomie County Extension Service has announced two issues regarding livestock at the county fair.

All poultry are required by the State of Kansas to be tested for Pullorum or Avian Influenza. This has typically occurred at the fair. However, Kansas Department of Agriculture officials prefer that this testing be done prior to the fair.

All poultry, including 4-H/FFA and Open class must be tested prior to the fair.

Testing will be done from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, July 14, the fairgrounds in Onaga. If you cannot make this date please contact the Extension Office at 785-457-3319 to work out a time to have your birds tested prior to the fair.

Also this year at the fair, Open Class livestock will need to be pre-entered.

The Deadline for pre-entry is July 10. There is a new Open Class Livestock Pre-Entry form in included in the fair book this year. Those who fail to pre-enter their animals will not be guaranteed pen space and will be dealt with on a first come first serve basis after those that did pre-enter are assigned pens.
