Moxie travels to Wichita for tournament

3 Moxie plsyers received recognition from opponents during pool play games - Blair Campbell, Linsey Kramer and Brynn Hammett each were given pool play game MVP awards.
Manhattan Optimist Moxie had a rough outing this weekend in the 3rd Annual Xtreme Showdown played at TRYC in Wichita. Moxie went 0-3-1. The rain altered the pool play on Saturday. Moxie ended the first pool play game in a tie with the Lady Lightening from Cheney 6-6. Down 6-0 for most of the game, Moxie made it exciting in the bottom of the 5th and final inning, Miranda Hemmert had 2 of the teams 7 hits one a double, Blair Campbell notched 2 RBI's, Linsey Kramer doubled.Brynn Hammett and Shannon Caffrey split the pitching duties, striking out 2 and 1 respectively. In the second game of pool play, Moxie faced Salt City Crush, losing 7-4. Moxie struggled offensively and had some defensive miscues. Hammett doubled, Alexis Campuzano, Mariah Kinderknecht and Megan Srna each singled in the game. RBI's came from Campuzano, Hammett and Alexis McCormick. Campbell pitched allowing 6 hits, striking out 3, giving up only 2 earned runs in the loss. In the final pool play game, Moxie could only muster 5 hits and dropped a 9-1 contest to Salina Stealth. Campbell, Caffrey and Hammett each pitched 1/3 of the game, none could stop the Stealth. Kramer, Caffrey, Kinderknecht and Hemmert each singled. Hammett doubled. Seeded last in their pool, Moxie faced the 2 seed Butler County Xtreme for the first game in bracket play on Sunday. Moxie got down early 4-0 but rallied late to make the final score of their final game of the tournament 4-2. Despite the efforts of Megan Srna, who went 2-2 and scored a run, Moxie could not generate much offensively. Hammett, Kayla Boltz and Caffrey (double) each had hits. Hammett suffered the loss giving up 7 hits in 4 innings pitched, Campbell threw 2 scoreless innings in relief. "We had such a strong showing last weekend in KC, it's disappointing to play so dismal, and without much offense. Defeat hopefully will bring a lesson and give us a chance to refocus, and start again for the next two weekends with different intentions and results." Moxie will play in Lincoln, Nebraska for the Firecracker NIT over the fourth of July weekend, and then finish the 2014 summer season the following weekend at USSSA State in Kansas City. Moxie is now 14-7-2 on the summer.
