Michael D. “Mike” Holmes, 34, of St. George, passed away April 25, 2014, as the result of a dirt bike accident in Waynoka, Okla.

He was born May 30, 1979, in Manhattan, the son of Donald E. and Nancy H. (Huyser) Holmes.

Mike worked with his father and managed Holmes Carpet Cleaning Service for 16 years, and on March first he started MKCC, LLC carpet cleaning and water restoration business.

On Oct. 14, 2000, in Council Grove, he married Kara L. Hight.

Mike was a coach for his children’s sporting teams and helped with the maintenance of the ball fields in St. George. He loved to ride motocross, hunt, fish and play golf in his spare time. He also enjoyed taking on carpentry projects.

He is survived by his wife Kara of the home; three children: Melanie, Ashlyn and Bryton; his parents, Don and Nancy Holmes of Manhattan; one sister, Jennifer Klingele and her husband David of Manhattan; In-laws Vance and Kay Hight of Council Grove; one brother in law, Jason Hight and his wife Shona of Admire, his grandfather Earl Huyser of Lawrence; and nine nieces and nephews: Cadence Klingele, Joselyn Klingele, Zachary Klingele, Jacob Hight, Gabriel Hight, Joshua Hight, Walela Hight, Kyla Hight and Josiah Hight.

Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents: Barbara Huyser, Harold and Edna Holmes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 1, at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, with Reverend Troy Bowers officiating. Cremation will follow the services. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.
