Age: 86
Raymond Louis Heine, 86, of Alma, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, at the Wamego Health Center. He was a life-long resident of the community.

Ray was born Oct. 1, 1927, on the family farm near Hinerville, KS, the son of Fred and Elsie Cheatwood Heine. He attended local grade schools and Alma High School. Ray served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic.

Ray was a custom welder and owned and operated Ray Heine Welding for over 30 years. He was known for his welding skill and being a perfectionist. He also was a stockman and farmer and was very proud of his Hereford cattle. In his earlier years he worked for Balderson’s in Wamego as a welder. Ray was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing.

Ray married Margaret Joy “Peggy” Banks on May 13, 1951, in Wamego. She preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 2010.

He is survived by his son, James Heine (Tammy), Alma; his grandchildren, Chad Heine, Wamego, Lyndsi Eckelberry (Ben), Topeka, Brad Heine and Zach Heine, both of Alma; his great-granddaughter, Lillian; his sister, Evelyn Warren (George), Topeka; and his brother, Herb Heine (June), Admire. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Heine.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma. Burial will follow in Alma City Cemetery. Mr. Heine will lie-in-state on Wednesday, starting at 3:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. They suggest memorial contributions to the Alma Recreation Commission for improvements at McKnight Park or the American Heart Association, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.
