Age: 80
Elaine M. Summers (Farrell), 80, passed away May 24, 2014 in Manhattan. She was born in Wamego on Jan. 1, 1934 to Gregory M. And Martina (Straub) Farrell. She married Robert E. (Bob) Summers on April 19, 1952 at St. Bernard's Church in Wamego.

Elaine worked as a window dresser for JC Penney's in Manhattan, and later was employed by Beech Aircraft in Wichita. After her marriage to Bob, she was a full-time housewife and mother. Bob and Elaine's family vacations were spent camping, usually in the mountains of Colorado, South Dakota or Wyoming. Elaine was an avid gardener and later an amateur genealogist, compiling several books of family history. Her family history research took her to Ireland, as well as various places in the US. She was a loving wife and mother and will be deeply missed by her family.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bob Summers of the home; her children Kathleen Summers Whitcomb and husband Ron of Woodland Park, CO, Lynn Summers of Lawrence, Robert (Greg) Summers and wife Susie McConkey of Overland Park, Sonja Summers of Firestone, CO, Everett (Bryan) of Manhattan, and Colleen Summers and husband Paul May of Olathe. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and sisters Mary Ann (Farrell) Umscheid of Louisville, Jean (Farrell) Barry of Raytown, MO, and Macrina (Micky) (Farrell) Schecher of Everest, KS. Elaine was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia (Farrell) Hund, five brothers, Dennis, Gregory, Colman, Tom, and Matt, and by her great-grandson Ash Guiles.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 7:30p.m. Tuesday May 27, 2014 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Summers will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 28, 2014 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
