Elmer G. Hodges, 76, of St. George, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan.

He was born on Mar. 25, 1938, in St. George, the son of Carl and Mary (Zarger) Hodges. Elmer was a lifetime area resident having lived in St. George, Westmoreland and Keats, and was a 1956 graduate of Keats High School.

For over 40 years Elmer managed the Klepper Oil Company in Manhattan until his retirement. He then went to work as ranch manager for the Rooks Ranch.

In the early 1960’s he served five years with the U.S. Army National Guard and later became a member of the Blackjack American Legion Post 260 in St. George.

On June 24, 1962 he was united in marriage to the former Charlene Funk at the Riley Presbyterian Church in Riley; she survives of their home in St. George. He is also survived by one daughter: Lynette Brickell and her husband Jim of Valley Falls, KS and a son: Tom Hodges and his life partner Jody Fronce of Wamego. Four brothers also survive: Gene Hodges and his wife Cathy, Wamego, Donnie Hodges and his wife Linda, St. George, Lonnie Hodges and his wife Diane, St. George, Rodney Hodges and his wife Debbie, Manhattan, and eight grandchildren: Beth Anne, Kate, Ty and Jake Brickell and Kelsey, Kendra, Lexi and Jace Hodges.

Elmer loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them as well as the companionship of his dog “Lucy.” He also enjoyed working and tending to his cattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Leslye Haller officiating. Interment will follow in the St. George Cemetery in St. George.
