Manhattan Optimist Moxie Compete in Wamego.

June 09, 2014

In a makeshift tournament due to the rain, the Manhattan Optimist moxie played two pool play games and then competed in a 4 team single elimination tournament. In the opening game Moxie was successful 6-2 over the Lady Indians of Manhattan. All 6 runs were scored in the decisive 5th inning. Aided by a hit batsman and walk, a single by Kayla Boltz scored the first run, Alexis Campuzano had a game changing single that scored 2 runs. Shannon Caffrey singled and Abbie Plummer had a double that scored Mariah Kinderknecht who reached by walk. Blair Campbell pitched for the win, allowing 8 hits, striking out 5. Moxie committed only one error in the game. In the second game in pool play, Moxie was matched up again with another Manhattan team. In the game that went 7 innings, neither team could plate a run. The game ended in a 0-0 tie between Moxie and Sting. Brynn Hammett pitched for the no decision, allowing 3 hits and striking out 2. It was a defensive display and a pitcher dual for sure. In the final game of Sunday’s play, Moxie faced the Sting again. It was a tight game, Moxie had 6 hits, Sting had 7. Alexis Campuzano doubled in the game. Other singles included Linsey Kramer, Caffrey, Mariah Kinderknecht, and Alexis McCormick with an RBI single. Blair Campbell pitched allowing 7 hits. Sting went on to win the 18U tournament. Moxie is now 3-1-1 on the summer and will travel to Topeka next weekend for a tournament.
