Dress codes were tightened and clarified in the Kaw Valley school district.

June 18, 2014

The policy now states that no short shorts, short skirts, or gang affiliated clothing will be allowed.

The USD 321 board added the clarifying language to the policy listed in the student handbook at the Monday, June 9, meeting.

If clothing choices may be disruptive, a judgment call will be made by the administration on what is appropriate and what action will be taken to deal with the matter. Letters will be sent out to parents over the summer outlining what is considered appropriate wear.

Other minor changes included a heat and cold weather policy and the allowing of healthy snacks for the elementary schools. Candy and pop will not be allowed except for special occasions.

The Jr/Sr Highs also added a fee policy for the replacement costs for damaged or lost text books. Grades will now be sent home to parents instead of given to the students. All other changes were made to so the two high schools would have similar wording.

In other business:

The board accepted the Tony Cook Memorial Grant for Rossville High School.

The board approved the selling of used and surplus textbooks and to dispose of ones that cannot be sold.
