Donald George Miller, 83, of Alma, Kansas, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the Wamego City Hospital. He was a life-long resident of the area.
Don was born February 13, 1929, in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Walter and Selina nee Diepenbrock Miller. He attended local schools. Don lived most of his life in the Spring Creek community and moved to Alma in 2007.
He was a cowboy and farmer and helped many of the local ranchers and farmers. Don worked for 30 years as an Animal Caretaker at the K-State Vet. Med. Hospital in Manhattan. He retired in 1991. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma and in past years was a member of the Spring Creek Community Club. He loved to ride horses and participated in numerous cattle drives. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Don had also helped coach his girls when they played on the Alma Chicks softball team. He was a New York Yankee’s fan.
Don married Beverly May Arand on January 24, 1953, in Alma, Kansas. She survives at their home.
He is also survived by his daughters, Donna Kaberline and her husband, Steve, Topeka and Jan Michaelis and her husband, Rick, Alma; his son, David Miller, Westmoreland; sister, Nyla Rogers and her husband, Herb, Alta Vista; grandchildren, Carrie Kaberline, Karen Kaberline, Keith Kaberline, Trevor Michaelis and his wife, Jess, Cody Michaelis, Amanda Michaelis, Brandy Bass and her husband, David, and Ethan Miller; great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Calyn, Addyson, Jordy, Bo, and soon to arrive baby girl Bass.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in McFarland. Mr. Miller will lie in state on Monday, at the church, starting at 4:00 p.m. and the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. They suggest memorial contributions to St. John Lutheran Church, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home.
