Kelly Lynn Smith, 42, of McFarland, Kansas, died Sunday, June 24, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
She was a resident of the McFarland community for the last fourteen years. Kelly was born February 22, 1970, in West Covina, California, the daughter of Jesse and Sherry Belcher Askins. She attended local schools and graduated from North High in Bakersfield, California.
Kelly worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Alma Manor in Alma. She also loved to play cards. Kelly married William Smith on December 9, 1989, in Bakersfield. He survives at their home. She is also survived by her daughters, Emily Smith and Jessica Smith, of the home; her mother, Sherry Askins, Burns, Tennessee; her sister, Tammy Bowen and her husband, Pat, Burns, Tennessee; her brothers, Ron Askins and his wife, Stacey, and Shaun Askins and his wife, Susan, both of Burns, Tennessee; her sister-in-laws, Shannon Simental, Topeka, and Jennifer Smith, Alma. She was preceded in death by her father and her daughter, Heather Smith in 2010.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma. Pastor Charles McClelland will be officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. They suggest memorial contributions to the Kelly Smith Memorial Fund, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.
