James Arnold Fritz Damme, 94, of Blaine, Kansas, died Thursday,
September 13, 2012, at his home. He had been a resident of the area
since 2000.
Jim was born March 5, 1918 in Morris, Oklahoma, the son of Arnold and
Temperance Rose Damme. He attended local schools and graduated from
High School in New Lima, Oklahoma. Jim served in the United States
Army during WWII. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre including,
New Guinea, The Philippines, and Guam.
Jim worked for 36 years for Halliburton Services as a Division
Mechanic. He worked most of his years in Indiana, Wyoming, Colorado
and Montana, in and near the oil fields. He lived in Evansville,
Indiana and Casper, Wyoming, before moving to Blaine.
Jim loved to tinker and could fix most anything. He enjoyed camping
and boating, hunting and fishing. He loved most anything outdoors and
spent many summers camping. Jim was known to help keep the
campgrounds he stayed at mowed and trimmed. He was a former member of
the Elks and Moose Lodges. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a
member of the American Legion.
He married Betty McIntyre in 1942. They were later divorced. He then
married Edith Brock in 1975. She preceded him in death.
Jim is survived by his companion of many years, Turie Mahlman; his
children, Sue Morgan and her husband, Roger, Norcross, Georgia,
Richard Damme and his wife, Mary Jane, Blaine; his step-daughter, Lynn
Bromley, Phoenix, Arizona; one granddaughter, Julie Norman and her
husband, Jamie, Lawrenceville, Georgia and two great-grandchildren,
Abby and Jack. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Herman
and Earl.
Jim requested that his body be cremated and all services be private.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Frankfort American
Legion, and those may be sent in care of Kufahl Funeral Home in
