JV Girls BBall
JV Girls bball
The JV Lady Raiders Continued their great season in the Month of January by winning every game except a tough one against Sabetha. To conclude the month the girls traveled to Riley County for a 2 game tournament. In the first game they went up against Riley County. This was a back and forth game the first three quarters but in the 4th Wamego managed to get a 10 point lead late. Riley County made a big run but good ball handling and freethrows put the game away and gave the Wamego girls a win. In the second game vs Council Grove the girls were a bit tired. This game started 20 minutes after the first so time to rest was short. Council Grove started out pretty hot and had a 12-4 lead, and carried that lead almost til halftime when the Lady Raiders got some hot shooting and managed to tie up the game by halftime. The second half was a battle til the end though. With Wamego managing a 2 point lead almost the entire half. Great man to man defense kept Council Grove from scoring and ever taking the lead. Wamego won the game and a well deserved break.
On Tuesday Feb 5th the girls went up against Chapman. This was the second time this season they had played Chapman escaping with a 56-50 win the first time. The game started with Wamego struggling on offense and only managing 7 points in the first in second quarter to trial 19-14 at the half. In the second half Wamego began to hit their stride. Coach Morton told them that the 3rd quarter would be their 20 point quarter and it nearly was. Chapman was outscored 16-8 in the third and 17-5 in the 4th giving Wamego the win 47-32. Michelle Wahl lead all scores with 12, Brooke Woodward added 10, Kasey Holle and Jennifer Griffitt added 7 each, Anna Stratton 5, Alexis Pettay 4 and Emmy Landis 2.
This brings the teams record to 14-1, 6-0 in league play.
