Margaret Roberta Dillingham, 94, of Wamego, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center. She was a life-long resident of the area.
Margaret was born January 3, 1919 in Wamego, Kansas, the daughter of Walter Earl and Marguerite Drauden Sackrider. She attended catholic grade school and graduated from Wamego High School in 1938.
Margaret married Eldon W. Dillingham on April 27, 1939, in Wamego. She and Eldon lived many years at their home in McFarland. Eldon preceded her in death on October 11, 1989.
Margaret was a homemaker. She also managed the McFarland Hy-Klas Grocery Store for several years. Margaret enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, canning, playing cards and table games. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a founding member of the McFarland Senior Center and a member of the Wamego Senior Center. Margaret served many years on the election board. She attended the United Methodist Church in McFarland and then became a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Alma. She moved back to Wamego in late 1999.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Margaret Feyh and her husband, Francis, Wamego; sons, Tom Dillingham and his wife, Virginia, McFarland, Jim Dillingham and his wife, Judy, Alma, Eldon Dillingham and his wife, Patricia, Wamego and Edward Dillingham, Alma; a foster daughter, Pat McHugh Stanley and her husband, Jerry, La Cygne; sixteen grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and five step great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Vicki Kelley.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. Pastor Dick Peugeot will be officiating. Burial will follow at McFarland City Cemetery. She will lie-in-state from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The family will greet friends on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
